Literature Text

You say that you have chained-up words
Imprisoned in your heart,
Rattling your arteries like prison bars –
Making you hurt.
I know it seems counter-intuitive
For you to come to me with this,
To find comfort in my arms
Encircling you;
And yet, that’s precisely what you did
When you texted me that one morning
While you were waiting for the bus.
I am thankful beyond words
That you can share your innermost words and rants with me.
Thank you for trusting me
To set you free
With the bonds of love.
It’s a paradox, yes;
But I don’t think either of us minds too much.
This is a companion piece to/interpretation of a poem Christine recently wrote. Here's the link, if you want to check it out: [link]
I highly recommend it, and all of the other poetry on her site! But then, I may be biased. =P

Ah, and Christine, my apologies if it turns out my interpretation was WWWAAAYYYYY off the mark. Regardless, I look forward to finding out! ^_^

"To set you free with the bonds of love"... I like it. The idea of paradox is central to this poem, even appearing in the title. Perhaps there are two sorts of bindings, then. One, the chains, the ones that sap your strength, that keep you tied to your comfort zone, that hold you down, that you want to break, but fear the consequences. Two, the bonds of love, the ones that grant you strength, that provide you comfort in new experiences, that guard you from the storms, that you want to hold onto, and fear ever losing. The last line, while simple, represents the triumph of love over reason - it may not make much sense, but that's how love sometimes is.

At least, that's what I get out of it. A beautiful, happy, short piece!
